If you have a website, you really need to have a video. Can we agree on that?
Unfortunately, I often see videos on performers' websites that have a small (but potentially large) problem. The video ends, and we see SUGGESTED VIDEOS! Sometimes those videos are seemingly unrelated to the performer. Sometimes they introduce the viewer to the performer's direct competitor!
The problem comes from YouTube's default settings for embedded video. YouTube is a business that gets more successful when more people look at more videos. It is a great free tool for the independent entertainer, but to keep control of the audience, you have to take control of the embed code.
Thankfully, YouTube gives us an easy way to adapt the code. You just have to dig a little bit to find it.
To get rid of the related videos, here is what you need to do:
Underneath your video page on YouTube, click on the tab that says "Share".
Then, click on "Embed"
Beneath the resulting embed code, click on "Show More".
You'll see some boxes to check that look like this:
Make sure that the first box (Show suggested videos when the video finishes) is UNchecked.
Copy the new embed code. It should have the figures "?rel=0" as part of the code.
Paste this into your web page and you'll have a video that promotes only you!
The video goes on to give another hint, so make certain you watch!
